Modern Systems partnered with a large quality assurance testing company to modernize part of a massive system for a North American insurance company. Modern Systems converted the existing COBOL code to Java as part of a larger modernization project, then turned it over to our partner for testing and implementation within the context of the larger system. The insurer will continue to make changes to the Java and re-engineer the code as they see fit as time goes on. They chose Modern Systems for the legacy modernization work because of the maintainability of our automated conversion solution’s output. The end goal was to reduce dependency on COBOL knowledge, allow for reduced cost of change, and provide better scalability, portability, and flexibility. Modern Systems successfully moved the insurer from the mainframe COBOL-based platform to a mid-range Java-based platform.
